I'm James Ian Rowles, a freelance web developer with a Bachelor of Software Engineering. I'm based in Auckland, where I grew up, and spent many years in Wellington.
I design and build websites, landing pages and small web tools for Auckland businesses, sole traders and clubs. You deal with me from the first email to launch day. There's no account manager in between and nothing gets passed to a junior or an offshore team.
We work by email, video call and a live preview link you can open on your own phone, which is how most web projects run these days anyway.

Do I need an Auckland-based web developer to build my Auckland website?
No. What matters is that whoever builds it understands your customers and how they search, not which building they sit in. I'm based in Auckland myself, and most of the work happens by email, video call and a live preview link anyway.
How do I get my Auckland business to show up in local Google results?
Say clearly on your site which suburbs or parts of Auckland you serve, keep your business details the same everywhere they appear, and set up a Google Business Profile. I build every site with that structure, plus LocalBusiness structured data and Google Search Console, so Google can match you to people searching nearby.
Is a freelancer cheaper than an Auckland web design agency?
Usually, because you're not paying for an office, account managers or a sales team. You get a fixed price after a short chat, so you know the total before any work starts, and you can compare it with agency quotes like for like.
How long does it take to build a website for an Auckland business?
A small business site of a few pages usually takes a couple of weeks from the first chat to going live. Most of that time is gathering words and photos, not code. Bigger sites and custom tools take longer, and the plan you get up front says when.
Can you rebuild my existing website?
Yes. If your current site is slow, hard to update or not showing up on Google, I can rebuild it or move it off Wix, Squarespace or WordPress, keeping your domain and your existing search traffic.
Do you only work with Auckland businesses?
No. I work with businesses anywhere in New Zealand and in Australia. This page is for Auckland because that's where I'm based and where a lot of people are looking.
